So now that I have a decent idea of where I'm going with this story I wanted to break down and list the various arcs that will be coming up for the story and the inspirations behind them.

ARC 1
REBEL STEEL RUMBLE
Rikku's heroics at the bank have earned him some serious respect and adoration around the city but at the same time it also fanned the flames of war. Spurned on him, Isabella and Karver crippling their men, The Rebel Steel Gang start coming after them in force.
After a series of murder attempts are foiled, the friends unite and team up to bring them down, eventually leading to the gang hiring some martial arts masters of their own to even the odds.
Inspired by side-scrolling beat em up adventures like Streets Of Rage and Final Fight, it serves as the introductory arc of the series, explores the city and establishes the general tone of the series.

ARC 2
TARTARUS GLADIATOR
Taking place a few weeks after the conclusion of the first arc, Rikku is still at the top of his game and celebrating with a massive party with all his friends. Unfortunately the same night tragedy strikes and Rikku awakens to find he has been framed for multiple horrific crimes and Isabella is in the hospital for a stab wound!
With all of the evidence pointing right at Rikku and Isabella and her father's lives being held hostage, Rikku is blackmailed into confessing and sentenced to Tartarus Prison, said to be the most inescapable horrific prison on the planet.
While his remaining friends start down the long hard path to recovery, Rikku finds himself locked in one of the most scientifically advanced supermax prisons in the world controlled by a sadistic warden who uses the prisoners as both guniea pigs and gladiators with their deaths being broadcasted online for entertainment.
As Rikku struggles to survive in an environment completely unlike any he's ever seen before, he gradually uncovers an even darker conspiracy regarding the fate of the dead inmates!
Inspired by Cellblock 99, Escape Plan, Outlast Infinity Chamber and others, this is an arc that really tests Rikku, his wits and his intelligence and how far he's willing to go to survive.

Hailed as an international hero, it looks like Rikku's sentences could be overturned with this news!
Unfortunately, when you blow open international criminal conspiracies, you tend to piss off a lot of criminals. A criminal organization, who had a hand in the prison's work and the mysterious man who destroyed his life, The Conglomerate Of Crime, mark Rikku Ryusaki for death in retribution.
The prison's conspiracy has been blown wide open, along with the prison itself, and their criminal conspiracies have been made public causing massive public outcry.

Man Out Of Time
After being swallowed up by a sudden surge of energy during a fight during a thunderous rainstorm, Rikku is presumed dead but in fact wakes up in a futuristic world completely different from his own. As he explores it he discovers that this world is in fact not his own but a different Earth altogether!
Alone with no identity and no way of paying, Rikku hits the streets and does what he can to survive while he tries to figure it out. Naturally he eventually gets into some fights with criminals of this futuristic world and gets a firsthand experience of what it means to face sci-fi villains and weaponry, this leads to a meeting with the local Phantom Hero and Rikku finally finding a new friend who might be able to help him get back to his own world.
