In his life, Derrick Blackburn has had the misfortune of encountering several criminals that he and his family had to fight off together. Most of which turned out to have been affiliated with the cannibal family in some way or another, such as The Jackals or The Cult Of Masks. Even Bryce, was technically involved since his Uncle was one of the corrupt cops the family took down.
Every time the Blackburn Family came out on top.
But this guy, this guy, was different. The Scissorman was not only unaffiliated with them he wasn't even involved by Ramona. He kind of just appeared out of nowhere.
Let me set the scene.
It's Derrick's Junior Year in Highschool, Spring Break and he can finally take a breather. They've won. Leonardo and their allies had hunted down everyone involved with The Brannon's Murderous Cannibal Criminal Cabal and they can finally relax. Bryce's gang had fallen out with each other and splintered off with a couple of them even trying to mend bridges and become friends with Derrick's crew. Bryce was in Juvvy. Derrick was dating Olivia-Rose Wilson. His grades were at the top of his classes.
After all of the insanity he'd been dealing with for the past three years, it felt good to finally be able to take the weights off his shoulders.
One of their teachers, Mrs. Margie Moroz, got together with a few of the other teachers to arrange for a party getaway at Hardingham Fortress over in the town of Tradby, for the students with the highest grades for team building exercises and celebrations of their hard work. Little did they know just what kind of team building the team would be doing!
The party arrived at the castle and got all set up with Derrick regularly keeping in contact with his parents to let them know everything was safe and fine. After they got set up in the castle they were allowed to explore it and later the town. It was a nice quiet town. Very pretty. Very classic style town. The kind you would find in a storybook.
Two days into their two week break and they were splitting their time between goofing off in the castle and having fun together and doing team building exercises.
Three days in. Derrick had a dream about a phantom with red eyes standing over him while he slept.
Four days in. They heard someone singing in the middle of the night and the sounds of someone moving around the castle. Electricity in the castle switches off.
They searched it top to bottom but they didn't find any sign of an intruder.
Five days in. Still no sign of any intruders but Derrick did hear a sound outside like the sharpening of a blade.
Six days in. Shit gets real. It's late at night and the castle suddenly goes into lockdown and their electricity switches off. All of it. Even their phones are deactivated! While they're trying to figure this out, they start to hear the sharpening of blades somewhere in the castle.
Needless to say, Derrick was terrified initially. He couldn't call his parents for help. Not this time. Not this time. All of the electricity was out. They were far away from home. They were locked inside and by all accounts no help was coming and there was yet another psychopath coming after him.
It was time to step up to the plate on his own and put an end to this. Derrick calmed down, took a breather and stood up and took charge of the situation alongside the teachers. They had two choices: Give Up Or Fight Like Hell and he was going to choose the latter.
They took stock of what they had.
No firearms so that was out.
No electricity so no calling for help. Additionally, navigating the castle was going to be harder without any lights and lighting candles, assuming they could find them, would be their only option. Derrick had his trusty lighter on hand but it would be their only source of light.
Additionally with all of the electricity and lights out the temperature inside of the castle was starting to drop.
They didn't know exactly where the intruder was or even what he or she had in store for them or how many there were so they couldn't rush this.
The one real advantage they had was that they knew the castle's layout fairly well from the past five days. So they knew where they were and what was connected to what. So they had to move as a group towards the kitchen where they could start arming themselves for a confrontation.
They maneuvered through the castle together while feeling on the walls to navigate through it. Derrick's lighter was their only source of light. They slowly walked through the walls of the castle until they found the door to the kitchen. Derrick cautiously opened it and stepped inside and fell into a completely different room!
Disoriented, Derrick took a moment to gather his bearings and he fumbled with his lighter until he could get it to work again. He illuminated the room as best he could to find that it was now old and dilapidated. The furniture was aged, worn down and torn up, the floor had holes in it, there were claw marks on the walls and dust on the floor and cobwebs up above him.
It looked so different than any of the rooms he'd seen before that it was like nobody had lived here for years!
The disorientation only got worse as Derrick noticed things in the room being moved around the moment he turned his back to them. He'd turn to look at one corner in the room and then turn around and a table would be in a different position for instance. Or the sofa would be in a different location.
And the temperature was still dropping!
He was in the middle of trying to understand this when his lighter illuminated something in the far side of the room. He slowly, cautiously approached it and lit up only to discover that it was not furniture or a prop but a very tall thin man with a cracked skull mask on his face and dangling scissor blades for fingers.
Derrick made a beeline for the door as the scissorman screeched and leaped over to him!
Derrick dodged its scissory-claws as it stabbed at him. The blades stabbed into and through the door.
The creature pulled them right back out and continued attacking Derrick like a whirling devrish of blades and death as it leaped and twirled about with reckless abandon, giving him no chance to fight it, only dodge for his life. Their struggle tore up the room until Derrick was able to get back to the door and he broke it open and leaped out.
He wasn't out of the woods yet though! The creature jumped out after him and nearly got him again before he dodged it. Having no weapons on his person, Derrick had to run the hell away from it.
He had to close up his lighter and pocket it as he tried to come up with a plan, any plan at all!
The whole time it just kept getting colder and colder around him.
Thinking on the fly, Derrick found his way to the staircase and took them several steps at a time and then he waited for the maniac. He caught up to Derrick very quickly and he attacked Derrick again as he dodged for his life.
This was planned though. Because of the narrowness of the staircase, the monster's acrobatic and wild fighting style was severely hampered, giving Derrick's simpler and more straightforward fighting methods a much bigger advantage. He managed to land multiple hits on it with a savage muay-thai combination until the maniac punted him down the stairs, knocking the wind out of Derrick and sending him rolling down the old stone stairs.
It hurt like hell, his hands were hurting from punching the man thing and it was still freezing!
If he did any damage the creature didn't show it. It just ran down towards him. Derrick managed to pull himself together and dodge its attacks by narrow margins until he was able to grab it, pull it over and throw it over him causing it to fall down the staircase.
It was getting right back up when Derrick leaped over, drop kicked its face, landed on the face and he kept moving, slamming the door and he went on the run.
The creature broke down the door and chased after him. This began a tense game of cat and mouse with the monster hunting him down relentlessly while Derrick tried to hide from the monster. The problem was that the creature could just break down anything in its way, so even locking doors wasn't an option, he could barely hurt it if at all, he had no idea where the others were and it just kept getting colder.
Derrick eventually managed to find a place to hide and he grabbed some objects around the room and used it in combination with the lighter and wood to start a small fire. It wasn't a perfect solution but it gave him the chance to warm back up, which let him think up a plan.
The creature would be on him soon. So he needed to move but he wouldn't be able to keep running if he was freezing cold. Solution: Use the wooden chair leg to create a torch and bring it with him. The heat would keep him warmer and light up the halls while he tried to navigate the castle.
Granted, this would also make him a beacon for the creature, but if nothing else, the torch would make for a good weapon to fight back with....so long as the creature didn't dice it up first.
Regardless he needed to find the others, so the torch was the best solution he had on hand.
He stuffed a few wooden legs in his belt and some old torn sheets and then took his improvised torch with him to find the others.
The flame was so nice and warm and lit up the castle halls while protecting him from the cold effects of the monster.
Derrick navigated around the castle halls for a little bit and finally managed to find one of us his friends who was freezing from the cold. Derrick lit up another table leg and handed it to him, warming both of them up more. They started getting caught up on things and then his friend dropped the bombshell: He'd been running away from a monster wielding a giant pair of scissors.
There was more than one of them.
