Once Upon A Time.
There was a little girl named Hina Hikaru.
Hina was the daughter of her loving parents Hina Hisako and Kon Konyo.
Hina loved her parents as every child should and they loved her in return.
Hina would laugh and play and go to school like every child. There was the usual growing pains of childhood but she didn't care. Not when she could go home to her loving family in their Apartment Complex Of Eccentric People.
For a time they were a happy and loving family.
For a time.
But overtime, cracks began to show in the relationship between Hisako and Konyo. Hisako and Konyo were having long conversations at night when they thought Hikaru would be asleep and wouldn't hear them and Hisako became more withdrawn for a time before she would suddenly perk back up. Staying strong for her daughter's sake.
Things got worse in the apartment when Old Mr. Nakatani's wife disappeared. They searched high and low and informed the police but she was never found. Hikaru did her best to help him but the old man but despite her efforts he was inconsolable for a long time after this.
Incidentally a wonderful Chili was provided by Hisako to a homeless shelter along with a 'special' bowl that Hisako saved just for her husband while preparing something more standard for Hikaru.
Things went back to normal for a while until Hikaru noticed Hisako coming back from another lady's apartment with an empty expression on her face. She comforted Hikaru and then told her to go out and play and that everything would be okay. Hikaru did as her beloved mother asked and went out to play while Hisako sat down on her bed and stared blankly into her reflection for a long time before her smile began to return.
Things went back to normal for a while until Hikaru came back from school to find her mother calmly sitting in her kitchen preparing Bento Boxes with numbers on them for each 'special' person in the complex with Number 7 being the last one. She told Hikaru that she had made just waaaay too much for them to eat and she needs Hikaru to deliver them to the other tenants. All of their Special Friends. She even informs Hikaru to wait to deliver #7 LAST. Because it's the most special of them all. She also tells Hikaru that she is not to come back until they're all delivered.
When Hikaru innocently asks where her Father was, Hisako just assures her she's at work and ushers her back out, assuring Hikaru that she can do this. She's Her Special Little Girl.
Some of them were nice, some of them were rude, some of them were strange and two of them were downright terrifying.
One was a Wicked Witch who was just a little too friendly with Hikaru when she delivered her box. Friendly and inviting but with a terrifying look in her eyes that scared Hikaru away from her. She handed her the box and fled to the Old Man's door and knocked on it.
Old Mr.Nakatani had taken his wife's disappearance very hard and was having trouble keeping it together but he was still able to scare The Witch away from Hikaru by simply knocking on the door and giving her a firm warning. Returning to his apartment, he asked Hikaru some troubling questions about morality and innocence in the world and monsters and devils, questions that Hikaru had no way to answer outside of her own experiences in the world but she luckily managed to pass and he accepted the box and wished her good day but warned about Wolves In Sheep's Clothing.
The boxes were all delivered save for #7. Miss Tsukamoto's Box. Kira innocently walked to the door and delivered the food and they had a chat together while she devoured the amazing food in the small box. Afterwords she immediately dialed her mother and asked Hisako what she just ate.
Hisako told her it was the same thing everyone else got: The remains of her Cheating Bastard Husband. Chopped into meat and turned into a Gourmet Meal for all of her Special Friends as revenge for laughing behind her back all this time (They weren't but Hisako was projecting her rage at her husband cheating on her with Tsukamoto Yumiko onto everyone.)
As Hikaru wondered what they were talking about she heard someone scream outside that there was an EYEBALL in her food! Tsukamoto ran over to the sink and dropped the phone and puked in horror and screamed in rage and horror! Blinded by the atrocity that had just been committed and the Hina's for what they'd done, she screamed in a blind rage and grabbed a knife and chased Hikaru out of her apartment and up the stairs while Hisako calmly waited with the door open and put on some music.
More and more of the tenants were falling out of their apartments horrified by what Hisako did. Among them was Mr. Nakatani who looked up at the sound of the screaming child.
Crying and sobbing and screaming for her life, Hikaru nevertheless managed to make it back home and slammed the door behind her. Hisako hugged her daughter and assured her she was so proud of her. Just. So. Proud.
But now, Hikaru had to go to her room. This was Grown-Up Time.
Hikaru ran to her room to hide while Hisako stood back up and pulled out her knife.
The door crashed open. Shouting and screaming and crashing ensued and then all was silent.
Hisako calmly knocked on the door until Hikaru opened it to find her mother covered in blood. Kira backed away but Hisako hugged her again and assured Hikaru that she was just. so. proud of her. It was over now. It was over. The Bitch Was Dead. Daddy did a very bad thing with the woman and now they'd been punished for it. They'd all been punished. Hikaru did good. Hisako was proud of her.
The Old Man ran into the room and called her out. Hisako patted her daughter on the shoulder and kissed her forehead and stepped out to face him. There was a back and forth between them until he demanded to take Hikaru away from her. Hisako refused and insisted that , while his wife was an unfortunate test bed for her plan, her husband and his mistress got what they deserved.
His wife had been the Chili she gave to those people and her husband. As a test for her plan. Hisako had not consumed it herself, outside of testing her cooking, nor had Hikaru, but those innocent, uninvolved, unsuspecting people and her own husband had done so. Just like this time. The Old Man attacked her in a rage but time and hid depression had taken his strength from him.
Hisako struck him down and snapped his neck. She laid him down to sleep and closed his eyes and whispered her goodbyes to the Old Man, telling him to join his wife in a better place.
The rest of the tenants confronted her, briefly, but seeing Hisako standing there humming to herself and calmly washing the blood off of herself scared them right off as did her brazen challenge to everyone else.
"I've killed four of you now without taking a scratch. Try something."
They wisely backed off and called The Police.
Hisako serenely tended to her daughter until The Police arrived and arrested her.
Hisako would later admit to everything she'd done and her Trial was open and shut. She was sent to a Mental Asylum.
While poor, broken, empty, traumatized Hina Hikaru was left sobbing in the aftermath of her mother destroying everyone's happiness.
She was sent to an Orphanage and The Media ran with the aftermath of the disaster.
She was labeled a Devil Child.
