I know, I know, Injustice sucks and I've rambled on enough that people are getting tired of it. š
Self-Depreciation out of the way, I had a recent idea for a fic that could take place in an AU of the Injustice-verse.
- It all starts off with a different choice by Superman. Everything goes the same up until Superman has Joker by the neck. But instead of killing him or letting him go, Superman makes a different choice. A permanent solution. Superman chooses to lobotomize Joker with his heat vision. Right out of the Justice Lords. He holds Joker's head steady, apologizes, and then he fries Joker's brain with his heat vision on Joker's forehead.
- Superman is not proud of what he did, he regrets doing it, but both he and Batman knew that Joker absolutely could not leave that room. Not after what he did. Lifting Joker up into his arms, Superman tells Batman that he is going to send Joker's body into the Phantom Zone so that he can never be recovered.
- Batman accepts that the lobotimization had to be done, but he isn't sure if this is right. Now, this is important, both Batman and Superman talk it out. They discuss it right then and there like adults but ultimately, Superman wins out. After all, locking Joker up in an asylum never worked, and there's always the chance that Joker's fellow criminals could help him to recover. Sending him to the Phantom Zone is insurance that he'll never wreak havoc again.
- Batman does ask Superman what should be done about Harley and Superman somberly informs Batman that, IF Harley was involved in the nuking of Metropolis in any capacity, it won't just be the Justice League coming after her, but the entire country. Let's face it, nuking Metropolis was, in essence, an act of Mass Murder and Domestic Terrorism. There would be a massive, massive manhunt for her.
- Superman flies away with Joker and Batman sits down and takes a minute to gather his thoughts and then he calls the rest of the Justice League together for a meeting.
- Needless to say, Harley randomly becoming BFF's with Green Arrow and Black Canary doesn't happen. They don't meet up in this version.
- Instead, we catch up with Harley in a run down motel staring at the news, slowly realizing how badly she and Joker fucked up. It really hits home when she sees Superman fly out of the building with a limp Joker in his arms. Harley breaks down bawling at the loss of her 'Puddin', thinking Superman killed him. Meanwhile, Superman arrives at the Fortress Of Solitude, drops Joker on the floor and turns on the Phantom Zone Projector. Superman then lifts Joker up by his shirt, glares at him one last time and flings him into the Phantom Zone like trash before turning it off. Joker is gone forever.
- The Justice League meets up together at the Watchtower to discuss their next move. Superman arrives last and his friends embrace him and express their sympathies for what happened. Superman thanks them and confirms that Joker has been disposed of. While the majority of the League agrees it had to be done, Flash and Captain Marvel raise their own points about if it was going too far and the League does discuss this. Ultimately though, even they agree that Joker had to pay for what he did and Arkham clearly couldn't hold him.
- The Justice League discuss what happened in Metropolis. Lois had a trigger attached to her heart, meaning that someone would've had to perform surgery on her in the first place and it must have been Harley. They also need to find out where they got the nuke in the first place. They'll be using the Golden Lasso Of Truth for that.
- The Government meanwhile is in a state of hysteria over this. Eventually however, they settle on a Nation Wide Manhunt for Harley Quinn, spearheaded by Amanda Waller, who assembles Task Force X to hunt her down alongside an army of soldiers and government agents.
- Their orders? Shoot to kill.
- Harley overhears the motel owner on the phone calling the police to turn in Harley. She runs ad spends several days on the run, barely sleeping and stealing some food and drink.
- Eventually, Harley runs to Gotham through the sewers. She briefly runs into Killer Croc but he just growls and dismisses her.
- Harley steals some clothes off of a rack and she sneaks through Gotham. Harley eventually arrives at Selina's place and she grabs a quick shower to try and clean up and a few fresh clothes...and then she runs into Selina.
- Harley sheepishly greets her...and then Selina walks over and slaps Harley. Selina then pushes her against the wall and demands a damn good explanation for what she's doing there after what she and Joker did to Metropolis. It blows up into a huge argument between the two former friends that ends with Selina breaking down for Harley just how fucked she is and that none of them can get involved. They can't help her now! The Military, Cadmus AND The Justice League are all coming for her and given the choice between turning Gotham into a warzone in a losing battle or letting them have Harley, the others will make the choice to turn her over.
- Harley sobs as she asks if this means Selina will turn her over too. Selina takes a good long look at Harley before she sighs and says that she just won't get involved. She lets Harley leave out the window with some granola bars and a water bottle.
- True to Selina's warning, almost none of the Rogues are defending her now. Riddler offers...but when he admits he would have to leave Riddles to her location, Harley turns him down. Eventually, Harley finds Ivy in a forest and she embraces her occasional girlfriend.
- The GCPD offer their full cooperation in bringing Harley to justice. Deadshot tracks down Selina and asks if Harley's there. Selina just drinks her milk and tells the assassin that she took some clothes and left. Deadshot accepts this and lets her go.
- As Ivy and Harley gear up for battle, The Justice League arrives in Gotham and waste no time in tracking her down.
- Superman tells Task Force X to stand down, the League needs her for questioning. Needless to say, the League rolls over everything Harley and Ivy can throw at them, Superman deliberately making a point to walk right through Harley's best weapons and then he slaps her like a child, notably, his slaps are practically the equivalent of a full-force punch from a normal human being
- Harley screams at Superman for his murder of Joker but Superman explains what he actually did and her nuking Metropolis and shuts her down. After Ivy is incapacitated, Wonder Woman wraps Harley up in the Golden Lasso Of Truth. Not only does Harley explain that they got the nuke from the submarine Gunter originally, but she is finally forced to deal with what she did.
- Harley is apprehended and handed over to the Government. She is eventually tried before the Supreme Court and she is given the Death Sentence.
- Harley is locked up in a secure facility awaiting her execution. Batman visits Harley and spends time with her. She tearfully apologizes for what she did despite knowing it is far too late and begs Batman, as a last request, to take of her estranged daughter Lucy, whom she left with her sister. Batman promises she will be looked after.
- The story ends with the Justice League taking time to clear their heads over what happened to Metropolis. Wonder Woman goes back to Themyscira and sits down and discusses what happened with her sisters and Hippolyta. Superman returns to The Fortress to mourn Lois and all of his friends who died in Metropolis. Captain Marvel comforts his idol and they talk about what happened for awhile before he eventually leaves to give Superman some time. On his way out however, Billy asks Superman what he's planning to do now. Superman's answer is ambiguous as he looks at all of the advanced science in his Fortress. Batman visits Selina who is mourning Harley and the loss of their friendship and he pulls down his mask and sits down with her. Finally, we see Flash going for a run to clear his own head after what happened as Reverse Flash looks on...
