Some people have all the luck— lucky they aren't River Russel.
When you're Born Unlucky, it's like the world is out to get you. You, personally. Lucky pennies crumble in your hands; rabbits' feet run away in terror. Black cats won't cross your path, and mirrors shatter preemptively when you walk into the room. When you walk outside, it starts raining; when you walk inside, your house collapses. The only time you attract good luck is as a set up for even worse luck: You find a winning lottery ticket, but the wind picks up and blows it out of your hands... and into your rival's. You are really unlucky— so mind-bogglingly unlucky it defies all chance.
While not quite to that exaggerated level, River's life has been rough. Nearly anything that could go wrong for her either has or will happen. She lives in a universe that seems to constantly bite her hand whenever she tries to extend it.
River never lets this get her down though and day after day she pulls herself up again and goes out into the world to try and help people however she can even if the world is constantly kicking her down in return, so long as she is able to help people regardless, she'll be happy.
Things continued in this loop for River until the day her luck finally came back around. in the form of a crashed alien spaceship! Fearing that someone could have potentially been hurt in the initial crash River ran to the site of the explosion and she even managed to brave the flames to reach the ship. Upon reaching it however River realized that she had no plan of what to do once she got there and now she was surrounded by fire and smoke and rubble staring down at a crash landed alien spaceship.
It took a bit of work but she was able to wrench it open. However the only real occupant was a small metal sphere sitting in a metal claw. She had to use some junk around her to wrench open the claw enough to grab the sphere which turned out be surprisingly heavy for its small size.
She barely managed to lug it out of there before the helicopters and black vans began closing in.
River spent the next couple of days keeping it secret until she was sure the Government, or whoever those guys were, were gone and then she spent her time messing with the sphere until she accidentally activated it and the sphere turned into a bunch of mini tentacles which swiftly multiplied and grew up into several more that shot forward and latched onto her and wrapped around her face before spreading down her body as River screamed, which was muffled by the alien device, and blacked out!
She woke up in the middle of the city standing on a rooftop now clad one or two feet taller and wearing a strange armor! It was incredibly sleek and it felt like it weighed almost nothing! She could move around freely in it as well and when she decided to test it out the unexpected power of the suit sent her flying across the street onto the opposite building where she landed perfectly! When she tried again on a higher building she leapt straight up to it, landed on her hand and pushed off of it to perform a few perfect flips. and stick the landing on her feet!
Whatever this suit was it made her into a damn superhuman! River proceeded to have a grand old time parkouring her way around the city in her new superhero armor until she happened to hear some trouble going down on the street from several blocks away! River rushed to the location at super speeds she couldn't believe, zig-zagging around the city until she arrived at one overlooking the trouble where a couple of people were being attacked. A man was being beaten down on the ground by thugs while others were trying dragging a girl and a woman towards a van!
River leaped down to the ground before she was consciously aware of what she was doing and landed hard enough to break the ground. Superhero landing and all that.
After recovering from her shock and surprise at surviving the jump she flash stepped over to one of the thugs and tossed him into a dumpster. Needless to say this took him right out of the fight. She shoved the other guy backward into the wall behind him. Then did the same with the other guy. The girls were shoved to the ground and one of them tried to run but River caught up with him instantly and dropped him and then she pulled the driver out of the van and tossed him away. The last guy panicked and opened fire on her but the bullets pinged off her armor harmlessly! River swiftly took him out, checked on the victims and left as the police sirens closed in.
River eventually found her way back home and figured out a way to de-activate the armor which vanished into her and she collapsed on her bed laughing and giggling. After so, so much bad luck, it was finally turning back around to become flat out AMAZING! She was a freaking superhero!
Anyway after this, she spends her time figuring out her armor and its powers and the changes to her body thanks to the armor and its all fun and laughs at first until the downsides of the suit start coming to light.
In that the suit does fully intend to aid its user in bringing about world piece but the alien AI's definition of bringing peace are full on Knight Templar territory. It's doing right by the programming of its creators, which are extremely messed up from an outsider's perspective. It starts off fairly benign with the suit gradually suggesting at first harsher measures in dealing with crime before graduating into more extreme measures to the point of Knight Templardom.
From there, it becomes a cat and mouse game became River and Clementine as she searches for what can only be described as The World's First SuperVillain. Meanwhile, River finds herself becoming addicted to it. In fact, the more the suit is used, the harder it becomes to take off and the suit's AI gaining more influence over its host. It becomes a story of two Titans coming together to clash.
During the fight, Clementine's priorities gradually change, from initially trying to talk down Armored River, to changing priorities after delivering a particularly heavy blow and briefly causing the host to gain control and beg for help before the suit takes control again and now trying to break open the suit until she can get the host out of there. After finally pulling that off, she is left to contend with the suit itself going ballistic until she can take the fight into space away from civilians....might wreck a satellite or two but eh. Details.
All this while doing her best to limit collateral damage in the first Super Fight of her career!
Their fight concludes on the Moon as all super fights should and she's able to eventually destroy it down to a head. Clem tries her best to communicate with it back in the atmosphere but just when it seems she's getting through to it, the suit erupts into a series of tentacles and tries to take over her forcing her to obliterate it with her laser eyes.
Once again she's left alone but now she knows at least that she isn't alone in the universe. There are other aliens out there at least. And also she can breathe in space.
So that's a thing.
On a less humorous note, the genie is out of the bottle now. The world KNOWS she exists and that she has crazy super powers. This is going to change everything.
River meanwhile is left in the hospital and guarded by the police until she meets Luna Lazarus.
